Idaho Rivers
Important items to pack before embarking on the river:
• First aid kit
• Patch kit
• Extra oars and paddles
• Spare PFD
Things to remember before heading out on the river:
• Tell friends or family your itinerary, launch and take-out locations, identification of vehicles and where vehicles will be left.
• Register your party.
• Check condition of all your boating gear and equipment.
• Learn as much as can about the river including the difficulty, predicted flows, weather forecast and road conditions.
Things to remember while on the river:
• Respect other boaters by keeping noise at low levels. Most people have come to appreciate the quiet beauty of the area in hopes of escaping from their noisy, urban lives.
• Respect private land so that boaters continue to have access privileges.
• If you bring a dog, keep it under control and respect others by cleaning up after it.
• Don’t always rely on your sight while in the boat. It is often difficult to see what lies ahead when you are on the river. It may be best to pull off the river and scout from the shore.
• Wear shoes with good traction such as hiking boots or river sandals and watch out for slippery rocks.
• Camp on durable surfaces away from riparian areas to protect existing habitats.
• Respect wildlife.
• Be cautious of insects, rattlesnakes, and poison ivy along the river.
