U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIORBUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT
EIS | Rasmussen Valley Mine
In March 2010, project proponent Agrium submitted a mine and reclamation plan for their Federal lease on the southern end of Rasmussen Ridge, about 18 miles east of Soda Springs, Idaho. The phosphate mine would operate for six years and impact 421 acres. About half of the surface acres are National Forest System lands. The remaining acres are private land or part of the Blackfoot River Wildlife Management Area (Idaho Department of Fish and Game), with a small number of acres under BLM management.
Issues identified during scoping include surface and groundwater quality, impacts to wildlife and the WMA, impacts to wetlands, and the stability of proposed waste rock dumps.
The BLM and the Forest Service hosted three meetings for the public to view and offer comments on the proposal on the following dates:
Bill Volk, Planning and Environmental Coordinator
