In 1978, the BLM began reviewing the lands it administered to ascertain which of them possessed wilderness characteristics, as defined in the Wilderness Act (1964).

This review was conducted in each State in three phases: Inventory, Study and Reporting.  The document below reflects the work completed on public lands in Idaho during Phase I (Inventory). 

Field work conducted in the summer and fall of 1979 led to recommendations on those BLM-administered lands in Idaho that qualified as wilderness study areas (WSAs) and those that did not.
