BLM Resource Advisory Council to Meet February 7, 2013

BOISE, ID – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Boise District Resource Advisory Council (RAC) will meet on February 7, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Boise District Office, 3948 S. Development Avenue, Boise, Idaho 83705.

The agenda includes a review of hot topics and an update on progress with the Paradigm project located east of Boise. A progress report on Idaho Governor Otter’s sage-grouse task force will be provided by the RAC Chair and a member of the task force. Managers for each of the three field offices in the District and the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area will highlight ongoing actions and activities. The status of fires, moisture and fuel loads across the District will also be discussed.

The RAC is a 15-member advisory panel which provides advice and recommendations to the BLM on resource and land management issues for approximately four million acres of federal public lands within ten counties in southwestern Idaho. Members of the public are welcome to attend RAC meetings and field trips. Time is set aside in each agenda for public comments at 10:30 a.m. Written comments are also invited.

This forum provides an excellent opportunity for the public to ask questions of the citizen-based advisory council or to make comments that may assist RAC members in formulating their recommendations to the BLM. Anyone interested in receiving an agenda or additional information about the meeting may contact BLM Boise District RAC Coordinator Marsha Buchanan at 208-384-3364.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2011, recreational and other activities on BLM-managed land contributed more than $130 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than 600,000 American jobs. The Bureau is also one of a handful of agencies that collects more revenue than it spends. In FY 2012, nearly $5.7 billion will be generated on lands managed by the BLM, which operates on a $1.1 billion budget. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
