IDAHO FALLS, ID – Here is some important information for hunters needing maps and members of the public needing wood permits; the Eastern Idaho Visitor Information Center (EIVIC) will be closed starting September 26, 2012 thru October 3, 2012. Please plan ahead and get needed permits and maps beforehand. The EIVIC will open in a new location at 420 Memorial Drive in Idaho Falls, Idaho on October 3, 2012. The EIVIC is currently located at 630 W. Broadway in Idaho Falls. At its new Memorial Drive location, the EIVIC will provide the same services as before once they are settled in. “The visitor center is a popular stopping point for many local residents and out of state travelers,” said Chris Deets, BLM education specialist. “We house numerous maps, brochures, pamphlets and other material that provide countless information on regional recreational opportunities. Thanks for your patience during the transition, and we hope to see you across the river!” For more information, please contact the visitor center at 208-523-1012 between now and September 26, 2012. If you need to obtain a wood permit or map for designated hunting areas, please do so prior to September 26. |

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2011, recreational and other activities on BLM-managed land contributed more than $130 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than 600,000 American jobs. The Bureau is also one of a handful of agencies that collects more revenue than it spends. In FY 2012, nearly $5.7 billion will be generated on lands managed by the BLM, which operates on a $1.1 billion budget. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands. |
