SALMON, ID – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Salmon Field Office (SFO) is considering implementing a $3.00 daily user fee and a $20.00 annual pass at Sharkey Hot Springs to alleviate some of the maintenance costs associated with the site. The SFO would like public input on the proposal and is inviting anyone interested to attend a public meeting on March 8, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Public Lands Center located at 1206 S. Challis Street in Salmon, Idaho. The Sharkey Hot Springs site is a highly developed and heavily used recreation site 28 miles south of Salmon, Idaho. “We have a lot of amenities at this site, including two concrete soaking pools, barbecue grills, a fire pit, bathrooms and changing rooms,” said Liz Townley, recreation planner for the SFO. “The implementation of a user fee would help us offset the cost of maintenance.” Currently, the SFO spends about $15,000 annually to clean and complete routine maintenance at the site. All fees collected would be reinvested back into the Sharkey Hot Springs site. For more information on the proposed use of fees and the business plan or to comment on the proposed fee change, please contact Liz Townley by phone at 208-756- 5431, by email at etownley@blm.gov or by mail at: Att: Liz Townley, 1206 South Challis Street, Salmon, ID 83467. |

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. In Fiscal Year 2012, activities on public lands generated $4.6 billion in revenue, much of which was shared with the States where the activities occurred. In addition, public lands contributed more than $112 billion to the U.S. economy and helped support more than 500,000 jobs. |
