BLM Seeks Volunteer Campground Host: Popular Location on the Salmon River near White Bird

COTTONWOOD, ID - If you're an outdoor enthusiast looking for some adventure this summer, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) might have just what you're looking for. The BLM Cottonwood Field Office is looking for a volunteer campground host for the Hammer Creek Campground and Recreation Site located on the Lower Salmon River near White Bird, Idaho.

“This is a great location and opportunity for an adventuresome person or couple with an RV”, said BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner Joe O’Neill. “We are looking for someone who would enjoy working with the public and maintaining the campground,” he said. The campground host makes visitor contacts and helps with minor maintenance like painting, cleaning, cutting weeds, and restocking permits and fee envelopes.

The BLM is seeking this volunteer to live on-site from mid-June through Thanksgiving and possibly year-round. The BLM will provide the selected host a fully accessible RV camping spot with water, electricity and sewer. The volunteer would also receive a small stipend to help cover incidental expenses.

The Hammer Creek campground has several developed campsites with fire rings, picnic tables, fire grills, water and bathrooms along with a day use picnic area and a boat ramp. Hammer Creek is also a popular launch site for floating and fishing the Lower Salmon River for thousands of people each year.

The BLM manages more land - over 245 million acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
