BOISE – The public is invited to attend a series of six open house meetings that will discuss continuing development of a new Resource Management Plan (RMP) for the Four Rivers Field Office of the Boise District Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The new RMP will guide land use decisions and management on the approximate 783,000 acres of BLM-managed lands within nine counties of southwestern Idaho. During these meetings, BLM will present four preliminary alternatives for management of these public lands, explain management options and provide maps to illustrate differences among alternatives. The alternatives were developed as a result of analysis and incorporation of input received from the public and interested stakeholder groups during public scoping meetings, when the RMP development was began in 2008. Several natural resource specialists will be on hand to answer questions. The six meetings will be held at the following locations: October 13: Mountain Home, Fire Department – 220 South 2nd East October 15: Council, Forest Service/District Ranger’s Office – 500 E. Whitley October 20: Payette, District Court Room – 1130 Third Avenue North October 22: Idaho City, Ray Robison Community Hall – 206 W. Commercial October 26: Emmett, County Courthouse – 415 E. Main October 29: Boise, BLM Boise District Office – 3948 Development Avenue All meetings will be held from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. For more information on this process or future activities, please contact Jon Beck at (208) 384-3305 or e-mail at jonathan_m_beck@blm.gov, or visit the Idaho BLM web site at http://www.blm.gov/id/st/en/fo/four_rivers/Planning/four_rivers_resource.html.

The BLM manages more land - over 245 million acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands. |
