BLM Reopens Blackwell Island Boat Launch

COEUR D'ALENE, ID — Floodwaters that prevented boaters from launching at the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Blackwell Island site have receded and the site is now open for the summer season.   BLM crews are busy cleaning up this and other recreation sites affected by the recent flooding on Lake Coeur d’Alene.

“We realize this has been a rough start to the summer boating season, “stated Field Manager Eric Thomson.  “We wanted to ensure the site was ready for use and that water levels were low enough to allow for safe boat launching.”

The daily parking fee of $4.00 is now in effect and season passes are available for $30.00.  BLM staff will be selling passes during weekends through the July 4 holiday.  Cash or checks are only accepted when paying at the site.  Credit/debit card purchases must be made at the BLM Office located at 3815 Schreiber Way in Coeur d’Alene.

The BLM continues to assess conditions at additional recreation sites on Lake Coeur d’Alene.  The Windy Bay Boater Park is expected to be accessible soon while the Mica Bay Boater Park will not open until the lake levels drop further and needed dock repairs are completed.

The Huckleberry Campground, located along the St. Joe River, is open with water and power available at all 34 campsites.
