Welcome

Welcome to Cress Creek.

Take a journey through sagebrush-grass communities, over juniper covered slopes and along a lush perennial creek. You will see sweeping views of the Snake River Plain, mountain ranges and volcanic geology. The trail is a journey through changing times and environments. The photograph below looks east to the Grand Teton Mountains in Wyoming (see horizon line in photo). The Cress Creek trail is located above the South Fork of the Snake River and is depicted with a blue line in the photo below.

Oblique aerial photo showing the trail

The first part of Cress Creek Trail is a half mile long and wheel-chair accessible to the creek. It is an easy grade to the two sets of switchbacks and after that a moderate grade to the creek. The loop trail is a half mile long, gravel and moderately difficult.

Wear a good pair of walking shoes and bring water, binoculars and a field guide to enjoy all of the opportunities along the trail. As you hike the trail, notice the changes in the environments around you. Interpretive panels are scattered along the trail to help you identify and understand the changing environments.

Thank you for visiting Cress Creek Nature Trail.
