River Regulations

Self-Issue Permits

  • Visitors to the South Fork of the Snake River should print off two copies of the self-issue permit.  One should be placed in the dispersed camping permit box at the put-in and one should be carried with you on your float.
  • Print off your own self permits here: Front and Back.

Human Waste Disposal

  • An approved portable toilet system must be reusable, washable, water tight, and SCAT Machine or RV dump compatible.
  • Portable toilets with snap-on lids (such as ammo cans or plastic buckets) are required to have a rubber gasket in the lid.
  • Plastic bag liners are not acceptable with the exception of solid human waste pouches, such as WAG® bags and RESTOP 2® bag systems that are approved by the Department of Environmental Quality.
  • Portable RV-type toilets will not be approved for use on the South Fork of the Snake River.
  • Building your own portable toilet for canoes and kayaks: http://www.blm.gov/or/resources/recreation/rogue/portable-toilets.php
  • Please remove all used toilets. It takes a long time to decompose and other visitors are impacted by the leftover mess.
  • Carry a small ziplock bag in your pocket and place the used toilet paper in there, then dispose of the ziplock in the trash bag.
  • Please be responsible for your toilet paper, do not bury it.

Fire

  • Pack out ash from firepans.  You can put the cooled ash in the lid of an aluminum trash can and pack it out.
