Recreational Opportunities

The South Fork of the Snake River receives over 300,000 visits each year from recreationists seeking fishing, camping, hiking, and boating opportunities. There are ten developed boat access sites, three developed campgrounds, numerous dispersed sites, and a number of private facilities along the 66-mile stretch of river.

Eight licensed outfitters operate on the South Fork.  It is AGAINST THE LAW to outfit or guide in the State of Idaho without a license.  If you are not with one of the licensed outfitters listed below, you are with an illegal outfitter.

For hiking enthusiasts, numerous trails start near the South Fork.  The Canyon Rim Trail begins in Black Canyon and follows the canyon upriver to Dry Canyon, providing magnificent views of the blue ribbon river below.  A variety of trails exist on the Targhee National Forest in the Swan Valley area and along the South Fork. Some of these trails are available for mountain biking and off-highway vehicles.

The South Fork is also located near some of the world's best known recreation areas including Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, Island Park, Targhee National Forest, Teton River, Henrys Lake and Henrys Fork of the Snake River.
