Bear Lake County Travel Management Plan

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Pocatello Field Office is hosting a series of public scoping meetings for gathering input for the Bear Lake County Travel Management Plan. The BLM is seeking input from the public on what trails should be designated for travel on BLM-managed land in Bear Lake County. At the scoping meetings, the public will have the opportunity to see large maps showing the BLM trails data for Bear Lake County, provide comments, and talk with BLM staff. The public is encouraged to attend and give the Pocatello Field Office your input and thoughts.

The BLM is interested in input on the accuracy and completeness of their Bear Lake County trails data. For this area, the BLM would also like input on public land access issues, developing more recreational opportunities, environmental issues, public safety issues, or any other concerns you may have.

Meetings

Meetings will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each evening at the following locations:

  • November 17, 2009
    Logan Library, Northeast Conference Room
    255 North Main Street
    Logan, Utah
  • November 18, 2009
    The Lodge at the Reserve
    316 Reserve Drive
Fish Haven, Idaho (4 miles north of the Utah/Idaho border, Just off US Hwy 89)
  • November 19, 2009
National Oregon/California Trail Center, Forest Service Conference Room
    320 North 4th Street
    Montpelier, Idaho 83254

Public involvement is critical during the development of the travel plan. The comments will be used in the development of an Environmental Analysis with a Proposed Action and Alternatives that will ultimately determine the routes to be designated for motorized and non-motorized travel.

The BLM will be accepting comments on the travel management plan until December 11, 2009.

*The Bear Lake County trails data that appears on the maps was created using a 2004 National Agricultural Imagery Program (NAIP) aerial image of Bear Lake County as a reference. Features on the image that appeared as trails were digitized into a computer file using Geographic Information System (GIS) software. Although some ground-truthing was completed in 2009, changes since 2004 may not be represented on the maps. The Bear Lake County trails data on the maps should be considered a baseline starting point from which to build a Travel Management Plan. The final plan will designate some trails for motorized or non-motorized use. Trails not designated for use may be rehabilitated to protect the resource.
