Formation Springs

The BLM and the Nature Conservancy cooperate to protect this 195-acre area, featuring crystal clear pools, unique wetlands and the famous geologic wonders 
of Formation Cave at the base of the scenic Aspen Mountains.  

The cold springs feed the pools and creek system, deposit high concentrations of travertine (calcium carbonate), and give the sites its unique geology.  The spring water has been determined to be 13,000 years old.
