See Pocatello recreation for trails information.

Most of the roads and trails currently identified for OHV recreation are found in the Pocatello Off-Road Vehicle Special Recreation Management Area (SRMA), which encompasses 32,532 acres of land surrounding Pocatello. These lands are primarily located in the West Bench, Chinese Peak, Black Rock Canyon, Camelback, North Pocatello, South Pocatello and Moonlight Mountain areas.

The PFO is currently preparing a new Resource Management Plan (RMP). The RMP will designate OHV areas and identify priority areas for establishing additional designated OHV routes for OHV use.  All motorized vehicles should use existing routes or use designated routes where they’ve been established (such as at Black Rock Canyon/Chinese Peak). To protect wildlife, reduce erosion and prevent the spread of weeds, please don’t travel cross-country or create new vehicle tracks.

Areas receiving the heaviest amount of use are the Black Rock Canyon/Chinese Peak OHV Area, which has 40 miles of designated OHV trails, and the Trail Creek, Sandy Lane/City Creek and Moonlight Mountain areas. BLM patrols these areas to monitor and enforce closures. Free maps detailing these closures are available through the PFO at 4350 Cliffs Drive, Pocatello.
