Community Pits & Common Use Areas for Landscape Rock, Gravel and other Mineral Materials

A wide variety of landscape rock, gravel and sand can be obtained from the Pocatello Field Office. The public can obtain these mineral materials by purchasing a permit at the Field Office. BLM staff can help you select rock that meets your needs and they’ll provide a map to the site where you can collect the material.

Bold type indicates landscape/decorative rock; regular type indicates gravel pits.

Marsh Valley Community Pit	Gravel: well sorted, flood gravel for driveways, gardens or concrete.	Bannock Co., 1  mile south of Arimo.	Gravel = $0.85/yd; Reclamation fee = $0.10/yd Total = $0.95/yd	Minimum:$10 Maximum: 200 yds
Bear Lake Community Pit	Sandstone: buff to red colored flagstone for facing sidewalks, patios, gardens and retaining walls. Range in size from a book to large boulders.	Bear Lake Co., Northeast of Bear Lake, access via Indian Creek.	Stone = $10/ton	Minimum: 1 ton No commercial sales
Hell's Half Acre Common Use Area	Basalt: black, volcanic, lava rock used for decorative purposes. Rocks range from softball size to large boulders.	Bingham Co., West of I-15 near Lava Road.	Rock = $7.50/ton	Minimum: $10 Permits available at both Pocatello and Idaho Falls BLM
