Congressional Phosphate Tour Held June 30:  On Tuesday, June 30, the Idaho BLM Pocatello Field Office and Caribou-Targhee National Forest hosted a tour of the three active Southeast Idaho phosphate mines for Idaho and Wyoming congressional staffs.  Congressman Mike Simpson, R-Idaho, whose district encompasses the Idaho phosphate mining area, also participated.  The group of 20 agency staff and congressional representatives visited a water quality remediation project at the Smoky Canyon Mine, were briefed on the status of the soon to be released draft Blackfoot Bridge Mine EIS and toured mining operations at the Dry Valley Mine.  Congressman Simpson and the other staffers were impressed by the magnitude of the operations and activities that are being undertaken at the sites.
