More than 517,000 acres of public lands in southwestern Idaho have been designated as Wilderness. Lands from 9 former Wilderness Study Areas (WSAs) in the
Owyhee Field Office are now part of the BLM's National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS).

Lands in Idaho included in these former WSAs but not designated as Wilderness, along with all lands in the Big Willow Springs, Squaw Creek Canyon, Middle Fork Owyhee River, and West Fork Red Canyon WSAs are released for multiple use management under the Owyhee Resource Management Plan (RMP).
