Silver City

This is a partially restored nineteenth century mining town that had 3,000 residents in 1866. As the mining boom ended, the population diminished greatly. Today only a handful of people reside in this community. Visitors to this area will enjoy the town’s historical buildings and old mine sites.

Location: 70 miles southwest of Boise in the Owyhee Mountains

How to get there: From highway 78 near Murphy, turn off at the Silver City sign. From Jordan Valley on Highway 95 near Sheaville turn off to Silver City.

Facilities/Fees:

  • Unpaved country access roads
  • Roads not recommended for low clearance vehicles or trailers
  • Primitive campground with six sites
  • Picnic tables
  • Fire grates
  • One vault toilet
  • No potable water
