Bruneau Canyon Overlook

Deep canyons and plateaus carved in rhyolite and basalt make this a beautiful, panoramic vista. This spectacular desert gorge on the Bruneau River is 1,300 feet wide, 800 feet deep and 60 miles long with one accessible overlook from which to view the canyon. They include both basalt and rhyolite forms of volcanic material, and rhyolite columns and spires are present through much of the Jarbidge River Canyon. The lower portion of the Bruneau River contains basalt canyons and rims. Arch Canyon contains a unique large natural arch composed of rhyolite that spans Cougar Creek. Scenic values are outstanding and the rivers have been recommended as suitable for Wild and Scenic River designation.
