Four Rivers Field Office

Recreation Sites & Activities

The Four Rivers Field Office is the backyard of Idaho’s largest city, offering easy access to out-of-town, unspoiled places.

At Bonneville Point, stand in the same spot where Captain Bonneville overlooked the valley he named Les Bois.  Seven miles up Eighth Street from Boise’s North End, the Hulls Gulch National Recreation Trail offers a quiet escape from the city below and a chance to learn about the unique natural history of the Boise Foothills. Original wagonwheel ruts are visible on two segments of the primary Oregon Trail route in southwestern Idaho, North Trail and Sinker Creek.  To experience beautiful scenery and solitude, jump in your car, float a stretch of river, or explore on foot.

Falcons, eagles, hawks, and owls in the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area comprise one of the world's densest concentrations of nesting raptors.  Designated to encompass lands at the southern end of the Four Rivers Field Office, the NCA is nature in the rough, but the birds and their environment reward those who meet the area on its own terms with the patience to fit into the natural rhythm of life here.  Several developed recreation sites lie within the NCA: Celebration Park, with high desert flora and 12,000-year-old petroglyphs; CJ Strike Reservoir and Cove Recreation Site; Dedication Point, Halverson Bar and Swan Falls.

The rivers that give the field office its name and two reservoirs in the area offer kayaking, canoeing, rafting and fishing adventures, motorized boating at designated locations, and swimming, picnicking, hiking, horseback riding, and camping on banks and shorelines.
