Natural Features: This WSA is a linear unit, 20-miles long and one-half mile wide, on both sides of the Salmon River from American Bar to just below China Rapids. The entire unit consists of steep and rocky river canyons. Numerous perennial and intermittent streams drain into the river and further diversify the terrain. Grasses dominate the landscape with occasional pockets of trees on the north and east facing slopes, and scattered shrubs and herbaceous species. Mule deer, white-tailed deer, and chukar partridge are quite common in the area. Summer steelhead trout (threatened), Chinook salmon (threatened), sockeye salmon (endangered) and white sturgeon occupy the river along with other nonnative species such as smallmouth bass.
