Corral—Horse Basin WSA
General Location: 20 miles south of Challis, Idaho
Natural Features: Comprised of rolling hills surrounding Corral and Horse basins. Anderson Peak, at 9,342 feet, dominates the WSA. Vegetation is predominantly sagebrush and grass with stringers of timber on streams, sideslopes, and bottoms. This area is also the central home range of the Challis wild horse herd. Fragile soil is present in the Sand Hollow Area.
Total Acres: 46,500
Acres Supported by BLM for Wilderness Designation: None
Rationale for BLM’s Recommendation: Quality of the wilderness values was the key consideration. While the WSA contains the wilderness values necessary for the study, they are not considered to merit inclusion in the National Wilderness Preservation System.
