Burnt Creek WSA
General Location: 35 miles northwest of Arco, Idaho
Natural Features: The eastern and northern portions are characterized by sagebrush/grass-covered hills. In contrast, the southern and western regions are steeper with scattered pockets of Douglas-fir and juniper. Several large rock outcroppings dominate the center and a small lake is nestled in the trees of the southwestern portion of the WSA.
Total Acres: 24,980
Acres Supported by BLM for Wilderness Designation: 8,300
Rationale for BLM’s Recommendation: The area recommended for wilderness offers outstanding opportunities for solitude and primitive, unconfined recreation. This portion is extremely hilly and steep and isolated from human influences. The openness of the hilltops creates vistas.
