Borah Peak WSA

General Location: 15 miles northwest of Mackay, Idaho

Natural Features: This rough, rocky terrain is characterized by moderately steep to steep slopes, sparsely covered with sagebrush/grass vegetation. Contains outstanding geologic evidence of the 1983 Challis Earthquake.

Total Acres: 3,880 (The BLM recommends 3,100 acres as suitable along with additional 780 acres outside the WSA which also offers outstanding naturalness and a more logical boundary)

Acres Supported by BLM for Wilderness Designation: 3,880

Rationale for BLM’s Recommendation: In combination with adjacent Forest Service Rare II area (recommended as Wilderness) this WSA has outstanding scenic qualities that qualify it for wilderness designation.
