Mountain Biking

Many trails meander throughout the Big Lost River Valley and Mackay area. Visitors looking for a challenging, strenuous mountain bike ride can begin at the Herd Lake Campsite parking lot and travel straight up the 5-mile incline, or start at the Herd Lake Overlook, 1 mile further up the road. This route is closed to all motorized vehicles, ends at a small campground and offers rewarding views from the top.

Pennal Gulch (ATV): Round Valley (Challis) Area
This 6-mile (one way) winding old jeep trail takes you along the foothills of the Pahsimeroi range on the east side of the Salmon River and is a great trail for ATVs, motorcycles and mountain bikes. You might even see mule deer, antelope and big horn sheep along this trail.
