Nature Viewing
Exploration of this scenic area will allow patient, observant visitors to view the diversity of nature in the Owyhee Plateau and Canyonlands. Pronghorn antelope, mule deer, California bighorn sheep and sage grouse are abundant throughout the area. Herds of pronghorn antelope are known to call Dickshooter Creek home in the summer, while visitors are likely to see antelope herds in the Jacks Creeks area during the winter months. Also, be on the lookout for California bighorn sheep, which are abundant in the Little Jacks Creek and Big Jacks Creek areas.
The area is also composed of unique and diverse landforms and vegetation types, ranging from sagebrush-covered plateaus cut by rugged canyons to rolling mahogany savannas in higher elevations and salt desert shrub communities in the lower elevations. The diversity of plant communities is a result of a variety of natural factors, such as soil type, elevation, annual precipitation and fire history.
