Hunting

Good hunting opportunities are available for big game and upland game birds, including mule deer, antelope, chukar and sage grouse.  Permits for highly restrictive California Bighorn Sheep hunting in the Little and Big Jacks Creeks and Owyhee River areas are chosen on a lottery basis.  All hunting permits are administered by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. Commercial hunting outfitters must be licensed by the state of Idaho and permitted by the BLM.

All motorized vehicles, including ATVs used for hunting, should use existing or designated vehicle routes.  To protect wildlife, reduce erosion and prevent the spread of weeds, please don’t travel cross-country or create new vehicle tracks.  See the following map of motorized vehicle restrictions on public land in Owyhee County - Hunt Unit 40

For more information on hunting regulations and license information, please visit the Idaho Department of Fish and Game website.  Contact the Bruneau Field Office at (208) 384-3300 for a list of authorized hunting outfitters. For outfitter licensing information, visit the Idaho Outfitters and Guides Licensing Board website.

See the Big Game Hunting Blinds brochure about the proper placement of hunting blinds.
