Desert Discovery Days

Each year, the Bureau of Land Management hosts the annual Desert Discovery Days at the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area (NCA). In 2011, over 500 students and their chaperones participated in this event that provides an opportunity for students in grades 3 through 6 to learn about the desert ecosystem. Students gain knowledge about the desert-dwelling animals, the surrounding desert vegetation and the adaptations of the plants that live in an area with little water. At the rim of the Snake River canyon, students can view the splendor of the area and can try to catch a glimpse of a raptor overhead. Students also learn about the geology and cultural history of the area and predator/prey relationships.
