Formation Springs

The BLM and the Nature Conservancy cooperate to protect this 195-acre area at the base of the scenic Aspen Mountains, which features crystal clear pools, unique wetlands and the famous geologic wonders of Formation Cave.

The cold springs feed the pools and creek system, deposit
high concentrations of travertine (calcium carbonate), and
give the site its unique geology.  The water in the springs
is estimated to be 13,000 years old.
