Community Pits & Common Use Areas for Landscape Rock, Gravel and other Mineral Materials

A wide variety of landscape rock, gravel and sand can be obtained from the Pocatello Field Office. The public can obtain these mineral materials by purchasing a permit at the Field Office. BLM staff can help you select rock that meets your needs and they’ll provide a map to the site where you can collect the material.

Bold type indicates landscape/decorative rock; regular type indicates gravel pits.

Bear Lake Community PitSandstone: buff to red colored flagstone for facing sidewalks, patios, gardens and retaining walls. Range in size from a book to large boulders.Bear Lake Co., Northeast of Bear Lake, access via Indian Creek.Stone = $13.60/ton

Caddy Canyon Common Use AreaFractured quartzite: fragments of tan and brown weather quartzite utilized for landscaping and other decorative purposes.Bannock Co., 2.5 miles northwest of Inkom.  Accessed via Blackrock Canyon roadDecorative rock = $10.20/tonMinimum: 1 ton
Stone Community PitLimestone Talus:  fragments of gray and tan weathered shale utilized for decorative purposesOneida Co., 2 miles west of Stone.  Accessed via W 11500 S.Limestone Talus= $0.85/yd   Reclamation Fee = $0.15/yd               Total = $1.00/ydMinimum: $10
