Cultural Resources

The Challis Field Office lies at the boundary of three distinct cultural areas: the Plains, the Great Basin and the Columbia Plateau. It contains 495 known, recorded cultural resource sites which represent a variety of types and chronological time periods. Together these sites document an almost continuous human occupation of the resource area from at least 11,000 years ago to the present. Historic sites in this area include historic mining districts, stage and freight road remnants, homesteads, cabins and dumps. Several of these cultural sites are also BLM Special Places. Follow the links below to discover more about these interesting locations.
