ArcView 3.2 Quad Pull-down Menu

To add the quad pull down menu to ArcView 3.2 use the script. Note that you must supply the relevant paths, file names and table column names that are shown in red in the script. To follow these instructions you need only to have ArcView 3.2 on your work station. You also should either be adventurous or have intermediate ArcView skills from experience or completion of the basic ESRI, Inc. classroom or on-line course. You do not need to be a System Administrator, GIS Specialist, or have System Administrator privileges on your machine. You will be modifying only ArcView rather than the operating system. All the instructions that you need are here. If you have difficulty, contact your peers who use ArcView, your local GIS Specialist, Dan Martin, or other available expertise.

Step one:

Create a table in ArcView that looks like this for your area. Once again you must supply the proper paths in the right column and insure that you use the same column headings in both the table and in the script.

In the example here using some of the quads from the Canyon of the Ancients, that I had on my computer. At the DOS command prompt, I used the command (Starting from the drive where the program executable resides, run)\GIS\Colorado\DRG\dir>quads.txt to obtain a file with a list of the quads in the directory to use in a spread sheet or other editor to build the list for the Quadpath column in the table. I used ArcView to obtain the Quad names associated with the Ohio codes (quad file name) to build the Quadname column.

The next task is to set up and test the script. In the ArcView Project window open the "Script" component and open a blank script window using the "New" button. Paste a copy of the script lifted from the browser window and edit it according to the above instructions and your local conditions.

Once you are satisfied with your edits, compile your script. You will have to compile each time you edit. Then run your script.

At this point you are ready to put a button on ArcView's View component's Button bar. In the ArcView Project window open the "Script" component and on the Menu bar choose "Project">"Customize".

Choose the settings for the "Customize" window as below.

In the ArcView Project window when you open the View component, you should see your new button and when clicked the pull down script will be run.

You now have an ArcView Quad Pull Down Menu!!! Congratulations.
