Heritage Tourism Workshop

Santa Fe, New Mexico
November 14-16, 2006

The first of two regional heritage tourism workshops was held this fall in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The workshop was open to cultural resource and recreation specialists from both the Bureau of Land Management and the United States Forest Service in Colorado and New Mexico with involvement by the state Departments of Tourism, private tourism industry representatives, and Indian tribal tourism officials.

A principal objective of the training was to forge closer working relationships with our respective Departments of Tourism, based upon mutual understanding and definition of common interests.  On the final day, workshop participants proposed joint heritage tourism projects across agency lines in partnership with the Department of Tourism.  This web page will follow the progress of each of these projects; treating each project as an on-going case study and serving as an example for resource specialists in the Bureau.
