MEADOWOOD BIKE TRAILS NEW OPPORTUNITIES ON THE HORIZON

LORTON, Va.--The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Meadowood Special Recreation Management Area has been undergoing some major changes in the mountain bike arena. Meadowood already has 13.4 miles of hiking trails, 7 miles of horseback riding trails and 4.7 miles of mountain bike trail, but future plans are about to change that landscape.

As a result of a Challenge Cost Share partnership with the Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts

(MORE), progress is being made on two new mountain bike trails. Doug Vinson, BLM Bike Trail Coordinator, said, “These new mountain bike trails will provide a venue unique to the DC Metro area that is progressive, fun and challenging. These trails will give the rider the ability to hone skills that they can use on just about any trail, anywhere.”

September Oil and Gas Lease Sale Scheduled at Bureau of Land Management Eastern States Office

SPRINGFIELD, Va. – The Bureau of Land Management Eastern States (BLM ES) office will hold a quarterly, competitive oil and gas lease sale on September 12, 2013, at the BLM ES office located at 7450 Boston Boulevard, Springfield, Va. The sale is open to the public. Parking is available. The Public Room at the BLM ES office will open at 8:00 a.m.; registration begins at 9:00 a.m.; bidding at the oral auction will begin at 10:00 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, registration and bidding will begin two hours later. Please call 703-440-1777 for updated schedules due to weather conditions.

BLM and Forest Service to Host Open House about Oil and Gas Leasing

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The National Forests in Alabama and the Southeastern States Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) invite the public to an open house to learn more about the development and processing of oil and gas on national forest system lands. The event is scheduled for April 25 from 5-8 p.m. at the Gateway Park Lodge, 3800 Davenport Drive, Montgomery, Ala., 36105.

March oil and gas lease sale nets over one million dollars

SPRINGFIELD, Va.—The Bureau of Land Management Eastern States (BLM ES) quarterly oil and gas lease sale resulted in competitive bids for all of the 63 parcels offered. The sale was held at the BLM ES office, Springfield, Va. on March 21, 2013. The combined bids brought in $1,279,351 that is distributed between the Federal government and the states where the parcels were located. Regulations require the bidding to open at $2.00 per acre.

Meadowood Building New Bike Trails

SPRINGFIELD, Va.—Officials in the Bureau of Land Management Eastern States office announced their intention today, to extend an internal review period of the Environmental Assessment (EA) for the equestrian barn at the Meadowood Special Recreation Management Area in Lorton, Va. This review is being extended for a minimum of 30 days.

SPRINGFIELD, Virginia—As the current Deputy State Director for Minerals in New Mexico, Tony Herrell has a wide knowledge of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in New Mexico, Arizona and Eastern States offices. Spanning almost 30 years of service, he has distinguished himself through a variety of leadership activities demonstrating broad and deep experience. Notably, his leadership in minerals, managing a new National Monument, use of electronic tools and Geographic Information Systems to advance National Environmental Policy Act needs in leasing and production, as well as public engagement and litigation, mark him as the right person to help shape and guide BLM Eastern States (BLM ES) into the future.
