The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) employs a diverse work force of approximately
9,000 employees who bring a wide range of multidisciplinary talent to managing and protecting Public Lands. The BLM's Eastern States office has stewardship responsibility for the Public Lands and resources of 31 states east of, and bordering on, the Mississippi River. Predominant occupations include professional and technical positions in the physical, biological and environmental sciences which are dedicated to energy and minerals, land management, surveying, and conservation.

Eastern States' Branch of Human Resources provides personnel services for Eastern States and the Washington Headquarters Office. Hiring within the BLM is a very decentralized process.
