Managed Deer Hunt Scheduled at Meadowood Special Recreation Management Area

SPRINGFIELD, Va. – The Meadowood Special Recreation Management Area (SRMA) located near Lorton, Va., will be the site of a deer hunt managed in coordination with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF). Applications are being accepted until September 28, 2012 for the hunt scheduled to take place on December 15 and 21, 2012.  For information on application requirements, visit http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/hunting/quotahunts/

The Meadowood SRMA, located at 10406 Gunston Road, Lorton, Va., is near the Mason Neck State Park and the Mason Neck Wildlife Refuge. The hunt is being managed in order to control deer overpopulation in northern Virginia. Sportsmen may hunt white-tailed deer with bow, crossbow or shotgun on over 800 acres of public land. A system of trails on the SRMA facilitates navigating the terrain for a variety of recreational uses.
Virginia Quota Hunts will manage some of the administrative responsibilities involved with this hunt, and will make selections and contact the winners. Selected hunters must qualify at an authorized range and attend mandatory hunter orientation.
