
Just north of New Mexico lies the spectacular terrain of Colorado. From alpine
tundra to arid canyons and mesas, the 8.3 million acres of public lands in Colorado
are concentrated primarily in the western portion of the state.
Our first stop is the Lowry Ruins National Historic Landmark. One of many
prehistoric Native American sites on public lands in the so-called "Four Corners"
states, this 1,000-year-old Anasazi Pueblo ruin was first excavated in 1931.
