If you are interested in radios, telephones, computers, and other electronic equipment, you may wish to pursue a career as a BLM communications specialist or electronics technician. A comfortable work environment, contact with a variety of people, and the opportunity to analyze and improve communications systems make a career as a BLM communications technician attractive to many people. These technicians work with computer, telephone, and radio systems which provide necessary support for virtually every BLM program. In some locations, an individual may be involved with all these systems on a daily basis.
High school courses that will help you prepare for these positions are math, electronics, computers, English, writing, engineering, physics, and chemistry. More specific technical training is available at a variety of technical schools and two-year vocational colleges.
