The Eastern States Office's Kids' Fishing Day is an annual springtime event promoting volunteerism and environmental education. Assisted by staff of the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority and members of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (BASS), Region 1, Eastern States volunteers treat about 50 inner-city children to a Saturday afternoon of fun, food, and fishing!

The nine- to eleven-year-old youngsters are students at Eastern States' "adopted school," Miner Elementary School in Washington, D.C. They learn about ecology and fishing techniques through participation in such activities as "Pathways to Fishing," a 12-step educational workshop in which BASS members discuss fishing ethics, demonstrate knot-tying, and show the young anglers the proper way to cast a line. |
