A Pre-Broadcast Activity

To acquaint your students with one of the major themes of the broadcast, have them consult the Endangered Species website of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS). What are some of the endangered species in your state? The following FWS website has a clickable U.S. map that will link to lists for each state:

http://ecos.fws.gov/tess_public/TESSUsmap?status=listed

Have students research some of the species listed. How often is habitat loss or degradation mentioned as a contributing factor to the species' "endangered" status?
