TEACHING ABOUT CANYONS OF THE ANCIENTS NATIONAL MONUMENT: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 8, 2004 Join educators from the Anasazi Heritage Center June 2 through June 5, 2004, for a four-day workshop entitled "Teaching About Canyons of the Ancients National Monument". Through activities, field trips, guest speakers, and printed lessons, participants will be prepared to lead educational outings to the Monument. The workshop is for scout masters, 4-H leaders, and teachers of students nine years old and up. It is ideal for middle school instructors. Multidisciplinary activities build on each other through group inquiry, decision-making, and civic action strategies. Participants will gain a holistic view of Canyons of the Ancients as they increase their environmental awareness, stewardship values, and cultural appreciation. Topics include: public land management, history, natural resource economics, archaeology, ecology, geology, and art. Workshop participants will receive four days of instruction and the new book "Getting to Know Canyons of the Ancients National Monument." Two continuing education credits are available from Adams State College for an additional fee. Preregistration is necessary and class size is limited, so sign up now. The Heritage Center is also headquarters for Canyons of the Ancients National Monument and is located three miles west of Dolores, Colorado on Highway 184.
