Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area Resource Management Plan

Resource Management Plan

The BLM is currently developing a new Resource Management Plan (RMP) for the Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area and Dominguez Canyon Wilderness.  A draft RMP/EIS is expected to be released for public comment in the November 2012.  This plan will guide management of the NCA and Wilderness Area for up to 20 years. Supporting information, maps and comment forms may be downloaded below.

How Can You Stay Involved with the RMP?

  • Contact a member of the D-E NCA Advisory Council, which was established to provide guidance to the BLM through the development of this RMP.
  • Send a comment to the BLM (while we are not currently in a formal comment period, we continue to accept comments):
    • By Mail: Dominguez-Escalante NCA, 2815 H Road, Grand Junction, CO 81506; or
    • Fax: Attn: Dominguez-Escalante NCA, (970) 244-3083
    • By Email: dencarmp@blm.gov
  • Keep checking our website and the Canyon Clarion for updates

Socio-economic workshops

The BLM completed two successful workshops on socioeconomics as they relate to the NCA and its surrounding communities. One workshop was held in Delta and one was held in Grand Junction.  The BLM will incorporate information from these workshops into its Resource Management Plan.  Click here for information related to socioeconomics in the D-E NCA tri-county region (Delta, Mesa and Montrose Counties).

A brief write-up about the workshops can be found in the October edition of the "Canyon Clarion."

Resource Management Planning

What is an RMP?

  • A long-range plan to ensure that the public lands are managed sustainably (according to the Federal Land Policy and Management Act) and in accordance with other laws, policies, etc.

What kinds of decisions are made in an RMP?

  • Allocation-level decisions, which are broad in focus and take a long-term approach.
  • Decisions that will guide management of the NCA's resources and resource uses for the next 10-20 years.

At what stage of the process is the BLM in now?

  • The BLM completed the public scoping process in October 2010.
  • From September 2010 until February 2011, the BLM collected data that summarized the current condition and management of the D-E NCA (called the Analysis of the Management Situation).
  • BLM staff, in conjunction with the D-E NCA advisory council and local, state, tribal and other federal agencies, began developing management alternatives in February 2011.
  • BLM staff anticipates releasing a Draft RMP/EIS for public comment in the Fall of 2012.

While we are no longer in the formal scoping period, we continue to accept comments submitted to Dominguez-Escalante NCA, 2815 H Road Grand Junction, CO 81501
