Secretary Jewell Appoints Dominguez-Escalante Advisory Council

Grand Junction, Colo - Department of Interior Secretary Sally Jewell recently announced the appointment of several local residents to the Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area and Dominguez Canyon Wilderness Advisory Council. 

“This council will assist the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in collaboratively developing a Resource Management Plan for the NCA and wilderness,” said Secretary Jewell.  “I want to welcome our newly appointed council members and salute them for their commitment to public service.”

Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area Resource Advisory Council to meet
Table and 10 chairs representing Advisory Council meeting  
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area Advisory Council will meet on Nov. 5 from 3-6 p.m. to discuss recommendations for the NCA’s proposed management plan. 
 
The meeting is scheduled at the Bill Heddles Recreation Center in Delta.

Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area Resource Advisory Council to meet
Table and 10 chairs representing Advisory Council meeting  

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area Advisory Council will meet on Oct. 24 and will reschedule a canceled meeting planned for Oct. 22.

A replacement date for the canceled Oct. 22 meeting is yet to be determined. The Oct. 24 meeting will be held from 3-6 p.m. in Grand Junction at the Whitman Education Center on the corner of 4th and Ute.

BLM Dominguez-Escalante draft resource management plan comment period coming to a close
Cover of draft RMP with notice comment period ends Sept. 23  

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management is scheduled to conclude a 130-day comment period on Sept. 23 for the Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area draft Resource Management Plan.

The draft management plan was released to the public on May 17 with an original comment period of 90 days. In response to public input, the deadline was extended until Sept. 23.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area Advisory Council will meet two more times before the NCA’s Draft Resource Management Plan comment period ends Sept. 23.

RMPs guide the management of public lands for approximately 20 years. The 10-member advisory council was formed by the Secretary of the Interior to advise the BLM on the development of the draft RMP now out for review. All advisory council meetings are open to the public and include time for public comments.

BLM extends public comment period on draft Dominguez-Escalante NCA plan

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management announced today it will extend the public comment period on the on the Draft Resource Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement for the Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area and the Dominguez Canyon Wilderness through Sept. 23. 

The plan will provide a framework to guide subsequent management decisions on approximately 210,000 acres administered by the BLM in Delta, Mesa and Montrose counties of western Colorado.

Collin Ewing Named National Conservation Area Manager

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management named Collin Ewing as the Manager of McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area.

Ewing will also serve as the interim manager of Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area with this appointment. Ewing accepts the NCA Manager position made available when Katie Stevens was promoted to the Field Office Manager in that office. He previously served as the Planning and Environmental Coordinator for the BLM Grand Junction Field Office.

New construction and improvements await visitors to area NCAs – more on the way

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. —The Bureau of Land Management recently completed work at local National Conservation Areas to improve user experience with better parking and accessibility.

Future visitors to McInnis Canyons and Dominguez-Escalante NCAs will find new or improved features designed to enhance sustainability and visitor experience.

BLM to hold open house meetings on Dominguez-Escalante Resource Management Plan

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management is scheduled to host open house meetings on June 17 and 19 to discuss the draft Resource Management Plan for Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area.

The Dominguez-Escalante NCA encompasses 210,000 acres of BLM-administered lands in Mesa, Delta and Montrose counties. The BLM will conduct two public open house meetings for the representative communities in those counties. Both meetings will run between 4:30-7:30 p.m.
