As part of BLM’s requirement to maintain an updated inventory of lands with wilderness characteristics, in December of 2010 the White River Field Office (WRFO) began the process of identifying and inventorying potential lands with wilderness characteristics within its administrative boundaries. Through the initial step in the process of conducting a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analysis to identify 5,000 acre roadless blocks of land, a total of 30 parcels potentially containing wilderness character were identified. Of these 30 parcels, a total of six have been fully inventoried and found to contain wilderness character. The WRFO is currently in the process of inventorying the remaining 24 parcels and will continue to upload the documentation of these inventories as they are completed.
