San Miguel River Flow Guidelines

250-550 cfs flow

  • Canoes, kayaks, inflatable kayaks, rafts 12ft or smaller recommended
    • River is less "pushy" but rapids become more technical with exposed rocks and narrow passages
    • Beware of submerged and exposed rocks
    • This flow is good for less experienced rafters and paddlers

550-1200 cfs flow

  • Canoes, kayaks, inflatable kayaks, rafts 14ft or smaller recommended
    • Best level for beginner to intermediate rafters. Challenging for intermediate kayakers.

1200-2000 cfs flow

  • Canoes, kayaks, inflatable kayaks, rafts 14ft or smaller recommended
    • Solid class III with some IV possible
    • As flows approach 3,000cfs, the river becomes "pushy" and fast. Many rapids will washout while others will form.
    • Beware of overhanging trees and strainers

2000+ cfs flow (rare)

  • Canoes, kayaks, inflatable kayaks, rafts 14 ft recommended
  •  
    • RECOMMENDED FOR EXPERT BOATERS ONLY
    • CLASS III AND IV
    • EXTREMELY FAST AND PUSHY!
    • RIVER FLOWS OUT OF ITS BANKS
