Forest Products
Wood products such as fuelwood, fence posts, transplants, and Christmas trees are available for non-commercial sale within designated areas of the Uncompahgre Field Office. Non-commercial sales of wood products are for personal use only and cannot be resold.
Piñon nuts are a popular food item that can be harvested on public lands. The roasted nuts of the Colorado Piñon Pine (Pinus edulis) make a tasty snack and can be used in a variety of recipes. No permit is required if an individual is collecting less than 75 pounds for personal use only.
Commercial wood products are available on a case-by-case basis in designated areas.
Permits for cutting Christmas trees in the UFO go on sale November 23, and are available at the Montrose Public Lands Center during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday). The center is located at 2465 S. Townsend Ave. in Montrose. The price will remain $8 per tree. Click here for guidelines and maps.
