Proposed Action: The BLM gives notice of intent to begin the process of evaluating an application to issue a Communications Use Lease for the construction and operation of a 150-foot-high telecommunications tower. The telecommunications tower would be owned and operated by Viaero Wireless on lands administered by the BLM San Luis Valley Field Office, on Mount Baxter in Rio Grande County, Colorado, near the town of South Fork.
The BLM will evaluate Viaero’s application to issue a Communications Use Lease through a Right-of-Way Grant under the Federal Land Policy and Management Act and will prepare an Environmental Assessment (EA) evaluating the environmental impacts of the proposed action relative to reasonable alternatives.
Scoping Period: The purpose of the public scoping process is to facilitate determination of the nature and range of issues to be addressed in the EA, including alternatives. We encourage comments concerning the proposed action, alternatives and preliminary identification of environmental issues. Comments must be received prior to July 7, 2014 to be considered for inclusion in the public record. Please send comments by mail to:
