Wilderness Study Areas

ELEVATION:  6,000 feet – 8,100 feet LOCATION:  Approximately 10 miles southeast of Cañon City, off of Oak Creek Grade Road   ALLOWED USES: hiking, horseback riding   MILES OF TRAIL: 0 miles   TYPES OF TRAIL: N/A   SEASON: Year round   FACILITIES: parking, information kiosk   WATER AVAILABILITY: Grape Creek, but it must be treated before drinking
CAMPING: Dispersed camping is allowed throughout this area. Please camp only in existing sites and do not create new sites or fire rings. Contact the BLM office for information on current fire bans and please follow all fire restrictions.  USGS TOPO MAPS: Curly Peak, Iron Mountain, McIntyre Hills, Westcliffe DIRECTIONS: From U.S. Hwy 50 in Cañon City, head south on 9th Street. Take a right on Elm and then a left on Oak Creek Grade. Follow this road for approximately 13 miles through the Wet Mountains and turn right onto Bear Gulch Road, following the signs to BLM access.    Please note that you cannot access Lower or Upper Grape Creek WSA from Temple Canyon Road.
