Destiny Mining Proposal Environmental Assessment

The BLM Royal Gorge Field Office released the Draft Environmental Assessment for the Destiny Mine proposal on Thursday, Sept. 29.

The BLM received a mining proposal in 2009 from Destiny Mining, LLC for a mining claim within a five-acre area of an 80-acre BLM parcel near Fairplay.  The mining proposal is for a small combination placer gold, sand and gravel mining operation.  A public scoping meeting was held in September 2009 to identify potential issues and environmental concerns. The BLM is now providing the Draft Environmental Assessment to the public for comment and review.

The 30-day public comment period for the Draft Environmental Assessment began on Thursday, Sept. 29 and ended on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011. Once the BLM thoroughly evalutes the comments it received and how they affect our analysis, BLM will complete and release the final EA. That document will be posted here.
